Mitchell Corn Palace

Every year since 1892, the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD, has been decorated with art made from corn. Here's the Corn Palace in corn mozaic:
And here's a more conventional view:

It's really quite impressive. Here's Chief Crazy Horse.

Still a work in progress. Here's the paint-by-number blueprint for an unfunished section.

And it's not just a palace, it's a gymnasium! The interior murals are corn, too.

Start with the magnificent ceiling at St. Bavo's Church in Haarlem. The date on the tower says 1520, but apparently it's even older than that.

A friendly ginger cat...

Public art, A to Z.

The barbershop at the foot of St Bavo's is nearly as old as the church.

Haarlem station.

Doodad at Sunset

I look at this decorative bit of ironwork several times a day, wondering "What is that supposed to be?"

Birth Announcement

There was a birth in the neighborhood. We know this because a 6-foot tall stork is advertising the fact outside the shop downstairs. And it looks like twins!

The Best Billboards

I just love this series of billboards. The pups are adorable and the way they are destroying their own ads is just perfect. Translation: "Max still has a lot to learn. Help him become a guide dog."Sam has a way to go as well.

Because I've been slow posting lately, here's a big bunch from Hartjesdag. This is a traditional festival wherein regular Amsterdam folks of all kinds embrace the joy of drag, with varying results...
